Exterior Painting Project Overview
Scope of Work
- Paint all paintable exterior surfaces of the home.
- Apply stain to a small set of steps on the back of the house.
- Perform necessary carpentry repairs on window trims and boards.
Detailed Process
1. Preparation
Power Washing: We began by thoroughly power washing the exterior of the home using a detergent containing Trisodium Phosphate (TSP). This step is crucial for removing mildew, mold, dirt, pollen, and other airborne particles that could affect the longevity of the paint job.
Caulking and Scraping: Our team caulked any exposed joints, scraped, and removed loose or peeling paint. This ensures a smooth and durable surface for the new paint.
Priming: We primed all exposed wood surfaces to create a solid foundation for the paint, ensuring better adhesion and longer-lasting results.
2. Painting
Color Selection: After the customer approved their chosen color, we proceeded to apply paint to all fascia, eaves, soffits, trim, siding, doors, garage doors, gutters, downspouts, and shutters where applicable.
Recommended Product: For this project, we used Sherwin Williams Duration Low Lustre Exterior Paint. Known for its durability and exceptional finish, this paint is ideal for withstanding the elements and keeping your home looking beautiful for years to come.
3. Staining
Steps Staining: We applied a high-quality stain to the small set of steps at the back of the house, enhancing their appearance and protecting the wood from weather damage.
4. Carpentry Repairs
Window Trim and Boards:
- Replaced two pieces of window trim to the left of the front door.
- Replaced one piece above the window and spliced in a piece for the vertical right side of the window.
- Removed and replaced a mismatched board on the back of the house beneath the double upstairs window.
- Removed and replaced trim around the basement window as needed. The customer removed the bars beforehand.
